2012 Sony World Photography Awards - 3rd Place, Fashion, Professional Competition
Born in Hunan province, China, Jayden had a bit lonely childhood as a only child. When he went to secondary school at age 12, he joined a painting club. First time in Jayden’s life, He saw replica of sculptures such as Michelangelo’s David. It opened a new world to him. He was fascinated by the beauty of those sculptures and paintings. He drew and painted almost everyday in the next six years before graduation. That was Jayden’s best time and memory before adulthood.
At the age of 18 Jayden moved to Beijing following his admission to university. He brought with him a 135mm SLR film camera and started to shoot from the first day. He won a photography award in an art competition in uni and that encouraged him to learn more and keep shooting.
After graduating from university, Jayden found interest in fashion photography and found an assisting job for a fashion photographer in Beijing. Unfortunately he was fired after one month. Confused by his future direction Jayden then stopped doing photography for a few years since then. 5 years later, after doing a few different jobs here and there, Jayden decided to pursue photography again. He took up courses, assisted a few best fashion photographers in China at that time and managed to shoot some editorials for magazines during that period before He was admitted in the University of the Arts London for a MA course in Fashion Photography in 2009.
Moving to London opened a new creative world to Jayden. The English name Jayden was also given by himself upon arrival in UK. He was inspired by all kinds of knowledge and experience in London, from browsing the Vogue magazines in the 50’s in the library, to visiting exhibitions and shows, and etc. Everything was learning and happy experience. in 2011, Soon after graduation, Jayden got some opportunities to advance his skill such as assisting a great fashion photographer Solve Sundsbo and doing post production for Alexander McQueen’s book Savage Beauty. In the meantime he kept shooting whenever he got an idea.
In 2012, Jayden won the third place in the Sony World Photography Awards in category of Fashion Photography. From the same year, he set up a studio in London and continued his creative journey.
Over the years, His work has attracted global publications such as Harper's Bazaar, Vogue, Elle, Vision, Fiasco, etc. Jayden also worked with renowned fashion brands such as Dior Jewelry.
From 2018, Jayden started to shoot more of his personal work. He also found interest in video making and he is currently working with his wife in this area.
